Two weekends ago we had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful teepee wedding in Whixley, York. Laura & Nick run their own business Voakes…. Free From, making delicious gluten and wheat free pies on their family farm, and decided to hold their wedding celebration in a trio of magical Papakata teepees in one of their fields. Preparations on the morning of the wedding took place at home on the farm (Laura) and in Whixley village itself (Nick). It was a really fun morning featuring lots of gifts and cute little ones.
The wedding service took place at Whixley church, a beautiful, quaint building that we remembered fondly from a wedding the year before. It was a very moving ceremony with plenty of laughs and tears – and after managing to escape out of the church gates that had been tied tight and throwing some confetti it was back off up the road to the farm to get the party started.
So – a teepee wedding, on a farm in early Autumn – you know what’s coming right? Rain! And plenty of it. No matter – these are Yorkshire (& Irish) folk, well used to these conditions, and Laura & Nick earned loads of gold stars by donning wellies, grabbing brollies and heading out for photos. We might have got a bit wet (drowned rats) but it was well worth it and we had a good laugh and no-one fell over in the mud. Result! We dried off in the cosy, twinkly teepee which Laura & Nick had spent months decorating in their heads, making table decorations, seating plans, crates and light-up letters. It was without the doubt the best dressed teepee we have seen and the hard work had really paid off.
After dinner there were some lovely, heartfelt speeches followed by a very impressive first dance by Laura & Nick. No shuffling in sight! The weather had not taken away in the slightest from a fantastic, feel-good farm wedding and we enjoyed it immensely. Huge congratulations again to the lovely Laura & Nick. We hope you enjoy some of the highlights below.
