Streets lined with well-wishers, a father of the bride singing his speech whilst playing guitar, a surprise music video starring the bride, a top tango as a first dance and an evening full of music performed by family & friends on stage – these were just some of the wonderful moments that filled Jo & Harlan’s Priory Cottages wedding day and it was such huge fun to photograph! On top of that we had a bride and groom who are overflowing with fun, laughter and love, with a huge crowd of family and friends to help them celebrate. You get the message – we had a good time!
Jo’s day began at her parents’ home in Harrogate with Harlan just around the corner at their house, although “house under construction” might be a better description!

Jo is in charge of a dance school in Harrogate that teaches many of the children in the local area, and the pupils turned out in force with Mums and Dads to see “Miss Jo” take the short walk from her parents’ house to the church where she would shortly be walking down the aisle. This was proper hairs on the back of the neck stuff. The kids cheered and waived and Jo and her Dad beamed from ear to ear and waved to the crowds. The traffic stopped to have a good look and you could see drivers scratching their heads wondering what an earth was going on. Just brilliant. The church service was lovely – with, as you’d probably expect by now, some great singing. While Jo and Harlan signed the registers, Jo’s dad played the guitar and a couple of their friends sang for the congregation.
And so it was off to one of our very favourite wedding venues – Priory Cottages near Wetherby. It never fails to amaze us how magical the courtyard looks when it is full of guests in colourful outfits, drinking champage and enjoying the occasion, and this was no exception. We grabbed Jo and Harlan for some couple photos before getting onto family photos and lots of magical candids and details.
The speeches were some of the best we’ve heard. The first was a song by Jo’s musician Dad Mike Starkings – all about giving his daughter away and it was truly touching. The best was still to come though. As a surprise for her new husband, Jo had recorded a cover of Harlan’s favourite music video: Kiesza’s “Hideaway”, featuring an array of dance students as well as a robotic dance by her Mum. Well this brought the house down as you can imagine – funny but also hugely impressive. Here’s a link to the video.
On the same theme, the first dance was an excellent tango, and then Mike and crew took to the stage for an awesome set that had the dancefloor heaving.
For us, that was the end of a wonderful wedding day. For Jo, Harlan and their guests it went on for a good while longer! We leave you with a last photo of the Priory Cottages courtyard twinkling in the night. Congratulations to a very special couple, Jo and Harlan.
