It was the hottest day of the year so far and a scorcher of a wedding in York for one of the loveliest couples we’ve had the pleasure of working with. We met Becky and Jeff back in 2012 and knew from the start that their wedding was going to be something special. The ceremony was to be held at Bedern Hall, a hidden gem in one of York’s higgledy-piggledy back streets, and the wedding reception at St William’s College next to York Minster. Jeff is Canadian and as many of his family were visiting York for the first time they built in time in the afternoon for them to explore some of the tourist attractions. This allowed us plenty of time for couple photos – a real luxury for us!
The morning preparations were all very calm with Becky and Jeff both getting ready at home (albeit on seperate floors) which meant both of us were working together in the morning for a change. Becky was having her hair and make-up done by one of our favourite hairdressers and make-up artists, Natalie Willingham. Jeff then headed off to Bedern Hall to prepare for the wedding ceremony whilst Becky got into her stunning, feather-clad, Pronovias dress.
Bedern Hall dates back to the 14th century and has close links to York Minster. It is a stunning setting for a wedding ceremony and Becky looked incredible as she walked down the aisle with her Dad.
Tea, cakes and mingling in Bedern Hall’s quaint little courtyard was the order of the day after the ceremony (and after a bit of confetti of course). It was such a beautiful day and the guests really enjoyed relaxing in the sun.
Many of the Canadian guests then set off on a sightseeing tour of beautiful York with orders to reconvene later that afternoon for the champagne reception at St William’s college. And for Becky, Jeff and ourselves it was time to head out into the city for some bride and groom photos. Not only was it a Saturday, but it was a hot and sunny Saturday in peak tourist season, and the city was teaming with people. Becky attracted a lot of attention as you can imagine, particularly when she decided it was time to indulge her favourite pastime – visiting Starbucks!
Then it was time to head back to St William’s College in the shadow of York Minster. Whilst Becky, Jeff and guests were sipping champagne, we took the opportunity to capture some of the beautiful details in the wedding breakfast room. After a few family photos we grabbed another few minutes with Becky and Jeff, this time in Dean’s Park and in front of the Minster.
The speeches were lovely and there was a surprise for Jeff’s brother who was inconsiderate enough to have his birthday on the same day as his brother’s wedding day ;-).
So….on to the first dance – well, the dancing in general really. This is definitely a case of last but not least. Both Becky and Jeff are keen Salsa dancers, in fact Becky teaches it in her spare time. Many of the evening guests were friends from Salsa dancing so the floor was filled with twirling couples. Becky changed into something a little more suitable for the first dance and what a routine it was! Then, at midnight, Jeff announced to Becky where they would be going on honeymoon – by means of a slideshow and an acoustic, and very impressive rendition of “Leaving on a Jet Plane”. The answer?……..
What a wonderful day. Thanks so much to Becky and Jeff for asking us to be part of it. We wish you every imaginable happiness in your future together. Love, R&C x
