There was no doubt that this was going to be a wedding full of style & panache. I’ve met Sarah and Richard on a few occasions now and even on their pre-wedding shoot in the Lake District (where for me at least we went on a seriously long hike) they looked a very elegant couple. I was extremely happy (if unsurprised) to roll up on the wedding morning at the beautiful Black Swan Hotel in Helmsley, North Yorkshire, to find an Ian Stuart wedding dress and blue suede high heels in the bridal suite and the groom sporting a fabulous electric blue Paul Smith suit!
Once again, due to our impending baby arrival, I was joined on the day by wing-woman Nicky Chadwick-Buckley who covered the guys’ preparations in the morning – featuring more sharp suits and dazzling corsages – while I joined Sarah, her bridesmaid and three of the cutest flower girls ever (complete with Wizard of Oz shoes).
All Saints Church is situated conveniently almost next door to the Black Swan and is stunning inside and out, not to mention the super-friendly vicar who was extremely accommodating and helpful. It was the perfect setting for Sarah and Richard.
With the serious part of the day complete it was time to throw some confetti and head off for some romantic bride and groom photos. Helmsley is a busy place at the best of times, but on a beautiful early Autumn Saturday it was absolutely heaving! I therefore have huge admiration for Sarah and Richard who were happy to simply dive into the crowds, wedding dress and all, to make the most of their beautiful surroundings. I loved this shoot!
It was the perfect day for mingling in the sun and Sarah & Richard had sensibly allowed plenty of time for the afternoon Reception for photos and socialising! After the family photos we had the luxury of lots of time to capture candid moments with plenty of laughter! The theme continued after dinner with some great speeches including a side-bustingly funny account of the stag do by the best man.
The evening Reception saw the arrival of a band we had the pleasure of seeing for the first time at our Yorkshire Air Museum wedding in September; the hugely impressive Rebel Sounds, and it wasn’t long before they had the dance floor rocking – once, of course, Sarah and Richard had taken to the floor for their first dance….
What a fantastic wedding, oozing style from start to finish. I left with one thought in my head….it’s time I bought a new suit! Huge congratulations to Sarah & Richard! x
