We’ve had an August of new wedding venues this year and thoroughly enjoyable it has been too! As the month drew to a close we had yet another at the majestic Wynyard Hall on the outskirts of Durham and what a wedding venue this is! With 150 acres of private parkland and huge opulent state rooms it really is a dream for a wedding photographer – come rain or shine- and we certainly made the most of it with Andrea and Graeme.
Not just another new venue but another amazing couple. Andrea & Graeme are typical North Easterners: wonderfully straight-forward, full of life, chat and laughs. They were an absolute joy to work with and we felt very much a welcome part of their day. Given Caroline is only a few weeks away from giving birth to our second child (and we are so unprepared!) she’s taking a break from the weddings and for Andrea and Graeme’s big day I was lucky enough to have the very talented Gemma Lovett-Hume along to second shoot.
On the morning of the wedding Andrea, her parents and the bridesmaids were getting ready in one of Wynyard Hall’s lodges whilst Gemma met up with the guys at nearby Hardwick Hall.
Wynyard Hall has a beautiful licensed chapel, full of vibrant colours, which offers the couple the option of a full religious ceremony within the grounds of the venue. Graeme, the groomsmen and the guests congregated there shortly before midday, awaiting Andrea and her Dad who were setting off to the chapel in a carriage pulled by two magnificent horses.
A sweet moment as Andrea and her Dad arrive…
I just love Graeme’s expression in the second image below!
A lovely ceremony and a special mention for Reverend King who was so helpful and allowed us to photograph (discreetly) as much as we liked, which after a couple of frustrating recent experiences was a welcome return to our normal experiences with the clergy. With confetti well and truly thrown we headed off into the grounds and around the Hall for some bride and groom portraits.
The already hugely impressive ballroom was decorated to perfection for the wedding breakfast and we took plenty of time to capture some of these stunning details before leaving the guests to enjoy their meal. We were back for the speeches which were side-hurtingly funny, and then after a short break it was time for the dancing to commence!
Finally, here’s the “on the day highlights” slideshow we put together during the wedding breakfast for Andrea & Graeme’s evening guests to enjoy, set to their first dance track – Beneath Your Beautiful.

And that was it – a wonderful day and a very special wedding. It’s also not quite the end of the story as we have a horse-themed trash the dress shoot in the diary very soon. Watch this space!
