Lake District to Lake Garda – Stephanie & Liam’s Engagement Shoot in Ambleside
9th May 2012
It had rained solidly for about 2 weeks and I was afraid that Steph & Liam’s engagement shoot in the Cumbrian Lakes may include a little more water than we had originally bargained for. However their Italian Wedding Fairy must have been looking down on them and after leaving a very wet Yorkshire, I arrived in Cumbria to plenty of sunshine and a warm Spring breeze. Perfect!
Steph and Liam are to be married in 3 months’ time in Bardolino, overlooking the spectacular water of Lake Garda in Northern Italy. Having been there many times I can quite honestly say that it is one of the most beautiful areas of western Europe and Steph and Liam are in for a real treat (because they haven’t seen it yet!!!). We’re both really looking forward to heading back out there to photograph what is going to be a beautiful wedding. And who knows, we may even bolt on a couple of days R&R….
Anyway – back to the Cumbrian Lakes. Liam proposed to Stephanie in Grasmere in April 2011 – and depending on who you speak to it was either next to a tarn on the top of a gentle incline (Liam) or on the top of an enormous mountain that almost killed her (Steph). I reckon it was probably somewhere in the middle. We did the engagement shoot in nearby Ambleside at a place called Stock Ghyll Falls: a lovely walk through the woods past trickling/raging waterfalls (depending on the weather). As is nearly always the case when couples are in front of the camera for the first time, Steph and Liam admitted to being at between 9 and 10 on the AS (awkwardness scale) for the first few shots – but then quickly relaxing to being only at a 1-2 towards the end of the shoot when smooching in front of passing Ambleside tourists!
I had a really lovely few hours and I hope you agree they both look great (and yes Steph, you DID carry off the Summer dress/hiking boots combo!). Here are a few shots from the day and the highlights slideshow on Vimeo.
